Welcome to With Love, S.H.
About:
I have recently entered the world of Sherlock Holmes and Sherlockian Scholarship. As such, I have spent the better part of the last few months reading; not only Canon, but various writings by various scholars and pastiche artists. In addition to this, I have also been devouring film and television adaptations, radio dramatizations, and various other mediums, all of which explore the world of Sherlock Holmes. Naturally, I have a lot to say on the subject.
This site was created to archive various theories, observations, rants, essays and reviews, as written by the webmitress.
Navigation:
While the content of this site is subject to expansion and/or change, currently it has been divided into two distinct areas:
Theories
At present, this consists of an ongoing series entitled; Decoding the Subtext. This series examines, and attempts to document, the subtextual evidence found within Canon as it relates to Holmes and Watson, and, in particular, the exact nature of their relationship. Last updated: June 19/07.
Reviews
Reviews have been segregated according to sub-genre (i.e.: pastiches, Sherlockian theory, media adaptations, etc.). Within each of these sub-genres, you will find a list of reviews, as written by the webmistress. These reviews are listed in reverse-chronological reading order (i.e.: my latest reviews at the top of the page) and are accompanied by a rating system. The rating system is explained in full in each section. Last updated: November 27/07.
Some warnings:
1) I play The Game. I rather enjoy pretending knowing that Holmes and Watson are historical characters, rather than literary ones.
2) I am a slasher. For those that don't know what a slasher is, please see Wikipedia's entry on slash fanfiction. Most of the thoughts and opinions contained within are biased by the fact that I believe Holmes and Watson were in love (with each other), and that their affection for one another could very probably have been manifested in the form of a physical and/or romantic relationship. As such, I generally avoid pastiches and scholarships which suggest that Holmes might have had feeling for any given female character (i.e. Irene Adler, Mary Russell, Mrs. Hudson, etc.).
Recent Updates:
November 27, 2007: 2 Film reviews, A Study in Terror, and The Sleeping Cardinal. 1 Documentary review, A Study in Sherlock (found in Misc) and 1 Misc review, Dr. Bell and Mr. Doyle.
Previous update: Television Review: 1954-1955 "Sherlock Holmes" with Ron Howard.
